The year is 1994, and for the first time in ages, the Triwizard Tournament is occurring. Hogwarts has been chosen to host this momentous event, much to the delight of its students. Unfortunately, due to previous injuries and deaths, only those of age may submit their name to the Goblet of Fire, vastly reducing the number of students who are able. That doesn't mean that younger students can't try. Also doesn't mean that they'll succeed. What does the Triwizard Tournament have in store for the schools of Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons? Who will be chosen to participate, and most importantly, will they all come out in one piece?

Serendipity (n.) the faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident; finding something good without looking for it
Condensation had gathered on the window panes, tears streaking down against the glass as the sun rose above the horizon, the sun melting away last night's rain. The stone walls chilled the room and the empty echoes of footfalls gave the room a sense of a 'just waking' feeling. The wooden desks and benches were still cool to the touch, but in a few minutes, they would be warmed students. Their body heat warming the room just as well as any torch. But a torch would help.
Soren flicked his wand towards four torches, two on the front corners of the room and two on the back. The three tall windows that sat on one side of the room would offer the classroom enough light, but for now it merely glowed, like a dim light of a lantern behind fog. He dropped his messenger bag on the table and pulled out a stack of parchment, the students first day of school essays. The professor he worked under thought it would be a nice idea to have the student write essays for their first day of school, Soren thought otherwise. But he was relieved to find that the essay was really simple, just a page worth of 'what you did this summer'. The class had two days to write it, he himself could have written that in five minutes. Soren was, of course, in charge of reading them. But he didn't grade them, there was no need to. He gave the professor a recap of all of their essays, the professor merely giving an 'uh-huh' here and there, and on rare occasion 'interesting!'.
Though his first few days had been busy as a Teacher's Assistant, it had been alright. He'd been a Teacher's Assistant for two years now, since he'd graduated from Hogwarts. He could have easily become a writer or photographer for the Daily Prophet, but he'd given up that dream halfway through attending Hogwarts. He felt it gave him too much happiness, and perhaps people were just not meant to be that happy. So he found a halfway point. Teaching. Actually, Headmaster Dumbledore had offered it to him. Perhaps knowing that Soren had potential that need not be squandered.
Today, he had the class to himself as the professor he worked under had a family emergency that needed his attention. It was just as well, the professor had been acting odd lately anyways and Soren hadn't the slightest clue on how to behave around him when he would go on tangents about mocking birds. It was always right when he was about to go to the Great Hall to eat lunch or dinner, too. And he always found it highly uncomfortable to just walk out or excuse himself in the middle of the one-side conversations.
He heard the sound of footsteps from the door and turned to see his first student of the day. He wondered if it was a coincidence as he was holding her essay in his hands. "Ms. Flannigan," he said after looking at the clock. She was five minutes early.

Fluke (n.) unlikely chance occurrence, especially a surprising piece of luck.[/align]
It was a big day for Ophelia, a big day indeed. She had the ever so attractive student teacher Soren Eldridge teaching her first hour this day. Everything had to be perfect, her hair had the correct amount of waves, and her uniform looked fantastic today. She had only met him when school had started for the year but he stole her heart in an instant. He had to be the most handsome man she has ever laid her eyes on, and those teeth. Nothing gets her more than a nice set of teeth. Today was it, She was going to speak to him face to face, and actual conversation. She will get him to say her name and it will be glorious. Her heart fluttered just thinking about talking to him, it might explode if she actually does.
She removed herself from the Slytherin dorms and was on her way to class, she had to be early to talk to him but not too early to cause suspicion. The halls were still a bit chilly from the night, made her wish she had brought an extra sweater. She didn’t have time to go back; she had gone too far to go back. “Aright this is it.” she mumbled to herself before entering the room. The torches had been lite already which meant the room would get warmer which gave her delight. The room was still a bit chilly. At that moment, she heard her name.
Her face looked at the man to which held that voice and she froze for a moment. He had said it and it sounded wonderful. She recovered quickly as to not cause suspicion, and smiled. “Good morning Professor Eldridge.” she greeted back as she moved to get seat, in the second row. She wanted to be in front but that would call too much attention to her and she didn’t want that either. “how are you this morning?” she asked. Making polite conversation; of course at this moment, her heart could explode. She had to keep her cool. She wasn’t going to let this go to her head. That’d be just awfully embarrassing and she’d have to drop out of school forever.
OOC. sorry it's so short. next one will be longer I promise xD

Soren almost blushed when the student called her Professor. He smiled, something that he couldn't help, and wished more than anything he could hide. Letting the whole thing get to his head was difficult, he wasn't a professor, yet and he had not earned that title. Soren noticed how well kept the girl looked, everything about her seemed planned. She had wavy hair which didn't look natural, but instead fashioned, so unlike that Granger girl who seemed to just walk to class right out of bed. He noticed these features, as he noticed a lot of things about people. She had a pretty face and for a Slytherin, a kind smile.
"Good... But, I'm not actually a Professor, as you know," he said walking towards her with her essay in hand. He sat on the table across from her. His left leg slightly higher than his right when he sat. His hands crossed against each other on his lap. "You can just call me..." he hesitated a moment. Most students called him 'sir', and those old enough to have known him called him Eldridge while he was a student. 'Sir' sounded too formal, and he hated the sound of him telling her to call him 'sir'. And being called 'Mr. Eldridge' made him sound old, as if he were his father. The girl would have been in 4th year during his last year as a student and he didn't associate with younger children then. Besides, she was a Slytherin and he had been in Gryffindor. "Soren."
Soren almost regretted it. Students calling him by his first name would probably get the students in trouble if someone like Professor McGonagall were to hear it. He could hear her now, 'that's Mr. Eldridge to you, Ms. Flannigan!'
He looked at the single piece of parchment he held in his hands. The handwriting was neat and beautiful. It had been fairly easy to read, not just in terms of handwriting but also with overall writing. Soren handed her the parchment, it didn't have a single mark on it aside from what Ophelia Flannigan herself wrote. "I read it," he said. It was actually one of the best ones in class, but he wasn't sure, yet, if he should say this. He wasn't a professor after all and had no right to give his opinion as one. What he might think as good may not be good to the actually professor who taught the class. "It's, uh, interesting. I'm glad you enjoyed your summer."

Ophelia nervously nodded when he asked her to call him by his first name. "alright, Soren" she said, correcting herself of her past mistake. How could she be so stupid to call him professor?! she was mentally punishing herself for that mistake. She would probably only call him by his first name when they were alone. She didn't want other girls to get the impression they could call him that as well. It would take the magic out of it for her. She blushed lightly when he moved in front of her, it was a casual thing to do, anyone would do it but it was him and she was attracted to him.
Her face lit up when he spoke of her paper and how her family visited France this summer for her aunts wedding, and while in France they had done many things as a family. she had left out the part of her sister's torment but went in to great detail about the hippogriff ride she had gotten to take but her sisters didn't. "My favorite part was the hippogriff, not many people can say they've ridden one, not many people my age i mean. " She commented on. It was pretty rare to be honest. she didn't know anyone that had ridden one anyways.
"How was your summer?" she asked. She didn't know if that was an appropriate thing to ask but of course, she was interested in it anyways. she was basically trying to get information out of him, of what he's like outside of the class room. She wanted a clue as to who he really was on the inside, so she could probably adapt herself to what he's looking for and BAM they're together. secretly of course. He was after-all, her student teacher. It's his job to help the students right? what if she needed help with a personal matter like a date or something.
no, that would never happen. That wasn't how things worked in the real world, only in stories. no! was wasn't to give up, she mustn't discourage herself with this. This is the first boy to actually catch her eye while being at hogwarts. She wasn't no she refused to give up so easily! But she wasn't going to make it obvious that she liked him. No, that would ruin it all and she'd be a huge embarrassment and would probably have to go into hiding.

"A hippogriff?" he smiled, thoroughly impressed. "We had those around last year in Hagrids class. I believe Mr. Malfoy got bit by it. But I remember Mr. Potter got to fly with it. Probably the only one in Hogwarts who've ever ridden a hippogriff, except for you." Soren found it easy to talk to the girl. He wasn't that much older than her and he had read somewhere that girls matured faster than boys anyways. From that standpoint, she was, emotionally, the same age. "It's certainly a chance that many people never get, I'm glad you got to do it."
He thought about his summer. It was mostly filled with studying for the subject he'd be teaching. The professor had given him a syllabus of the curriculum for all the years. He didn't expect to be doing any teaching, but he didn't want to look like a complete idiot either. So he read all the books assigned to students and read up on everything else to fill in the blank spaces in his knowledge. "Oh, it was nothing like yours!" he smiled, "Um, but I did visit my older brother in Russia. I saw some reindeer, a whole lot of snow- for miles and miles! and froze my ass off." He suddenly remembered who he was talking to and stopped. Soren chuckled and looked down. It was a little nice talking to someone without always being 'on' all the time. But she was still a student.
"Anyways, your vacation was much better than mine," he nodded, looking up at the clock. It had only been a minute and there were still no other students. He'd actually been very nervous about this day, mostly because it was supposed to be the first lecture day of the year for the class. He studied the material over and over and practically stayed up all night memorizing everything he was supposed to say so that he wouldn't have to rely on notes. "I hope you enjoyed that writing assignment, because it will be the only easy assignment you get in this class," he said in joking-threatening manner. "From here on it's all five page plus of magical theory." Soren smiled though the thought of it made him want to bang his head on the wall. Magical theory wasn't his favorite.

She simply nodded at the fact that notmany people got a chance to ride one, she actually forgot that Harry potter had ridden one the year before. It made her feel less speical but it certianly could have been worse. Harry could have been a girl, harry could be here and gloating about it. There were many things that could have made this situation worse. ”I had forgotten Harry potter had ridden one as well. I dont really talk to underclassmen often.” she really know knew of Harry Potter because he was all everyone ever talked about, him and his stupid lighting bolt on his forhead.
She imagined what it would be like in Russia, She'd never had been to Russia before. It would probably be completely different from what she thought it'd be like. Ophelia had a bit of an imagination going on. “I love the snow! The cold part not as much but It sounds fantastic honestly. “ She actually did like the snow, It was her favorite part about winter but the cold was her least favorite part. ”Are there penguins in Russia”? she blurted out the stupid question. She wasn't very good at geographical things like this. She knew most penguins live in the cold areas near water. The more she thought about it, the more she realized that was a stupid question because there wasn't a lot of water around there! ”That was a stupid question, dont answer that” she said with a nervous laugh. She didn't' want to come off as a dumb girl to him! Ugh she ruined everything!
She shrugged lightly ” I donno, Visiting family is always a good vacation I think. Especially if you haven't seen them in a long while.” was her response. It was true, although she wouldn't want to visit her family, her sisters more like it. When he changed the subject back to school, she felt a little bummed. They were getting somewhere on a personal level. There would be more chances of that soon enough. She had to be patient with this. It was going to take time to grow close to this man and thats was okay. IT was what she needed, to slow down.
” Oh good, I love writing” she was only half lying, She enjoyed writing but not five pages on a subject that could easily put her to sleep. But that could work in her benefit, She could use the opportunity to get help from him after class or during free period. Yes, this could work. ”Magical theory though, I'm not so good at. she added after a moment.
”So, today, can you give me a little inside for what's planned?” she leaned in as if it was a secret being told. They were the only two in the room, and she instinctively leaned in over her desk as if this was to be a secret.

Soren raised his eyebrows before laughing. He wondered what made her say that, but at the moment it didn't much matter because now all he could think about were Russians walking penguins in leashes. He looked down in an attempt to hide the wide grin that formed on his face. Reaching up to his face, he scratched at the corner of his mouth, the apparent smile still visible. "I don't know about Russia, but if you like Penguins, I think you can find some in Antarctica. Or maybe the zoo in London. Have you ever been there?" He kept his voice light. He didn't want to make her think he was interviewing her, or making fun of the question she'd asked. In all honesty, he should be doing other things that having a conversation with one of his students. Sort of student. But, it was just a conversation after all. It was good to get to know students. That's what their Headmaster always told them.
Tilting his head slightly, he stared at her with added interest. "You like writing? Really?" he asked, thinking about her paper and recognizing it as one of the better ones he'd read. Not just in content, but in the words she used. Everything had flowed beautifully, even when the entire topic was just describing her vacation. "Ah, well, I'm surprised-- Magical Theory is such a thrilling subject," Soren remarked with thick sarcasm in his voice, his eyelids half closed.
Soren leaned forward slightly, mirroring her movements. "I suppose I can give you a little hint," his eyes looked down at her, a fleeting glint of mischief passing through, "I've got a good lesson plan for today. It's so good that when I come up with it on the spot, even I'll be impressed." He pushed himself back, shrugging as he chuckled.
