The year is 1994, and for the first time in ages, the Triwizard Tournament is occurring. Hogwarts has been chosen to host this momentous event, much to the delight of its students. Unfortunately, due to previous injuries and deaths, only those of age may submit their name to the Goblet of Fire, vastly reducing the number of students who are able. That doesn't mean that younger students can't try. Also doesn't mean that they'll succeed. What does the Triwizard Tournament have in store for the schools of Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons? Who will be chosen to participate, and most importantly, will they all come out in one piece?

Wands are only as powerful as the witch or wizard wielding them.
Hermione wandered around the school aimlessly, not quite sure what the day was going to hold for her. It was a Hogsmeade weekend, one of which she had chosen to not participate in. Normally she enjoyed going out to the small village with her friends, but something was commanding her to stay inside that day. She rather enjoyed the emptiness of the hallways during the Hogsmeade weekends, preferring it to the everyday hustle and bustle that regularly occurred. Something about the silence was attractive to her that particular day.
Exploring was a fun hobby of hers. If she wasn't writing or reading, she was probably scouring the school for secret passages and hidden doors. All of her homework was completed, she had lost any and all inspiration in regards to writing, and she hadn’t found a good book to read in a while. Therefore, Hermione had decided to wander around. There wasn't anything in particular she was looking for, but that was part of the fun. Striding through the long and empty hallways made her incredibly happy.
Eventually, her feet carried her in front of an empty classroom on the second floor. It was a place that she'd discovered her first year at Hogwarts merely by accident. Not many people her age had found it back then, with the room being tucked away in a corner, door partially hidden by a tapestry, making it a fun little getaway for Hermione from her peers.
Pushing open the door, Hermione grinned to herself. The room had essentially duplicated into her own little private book nook. It strongly resembled the one she had in her own house, one she occupied frequently with her mother. No one else really came into the room, so Hermione had stacked many of her personal (but not valuable or favorite) books on the shelves and the abandonded desks. There were books of all designs, all shapes, and all sizes. Instead of wandering to cuddle in the large armchair, which had undoubtedly been left there by the previous professor, she stood in the middle of the room, whipping out her wand and moving her arm in a fluid motion.
Brightly colored bubbles began flowing from her wand, causing Hermione to laugh out loud. She'd been working on wordless magic for a little while. It was harmless stuff, nothing too large. It was simply for fun to start with. Once she got the hang of little charms, like the one producing the bubbles from the tip of her wand, then she'd start working on offensive spells, then defensive spells, perhaps even wordless transfiguration eventually. The prospect was exciting. Hermione continued to create the bubbles, practicing in making them all different sizes, not realizing that the door to the room was slowly creaking open...
Addison really wanted to have a lazy day, but her homework didn't really have the same idea. She sighed as she rolled out of bed, wanting to take a shower before she started on any of it. It's not that she was behind, it was that all of her professors decided to give out homework all at once for the week. It was like they didn't want them to have lives or anything. She was actually okay with that. With all the muggleborns that attended the school, she really didn't want to socialize. If an awesome pureblood wanted to talk, well they could find her because she wasn't going to go out of her way to befriend anyone.
Venturing out of the shower in just a towel, she started going through her clothes to decided what she should wear today. It was Saturday, so she decided not to wear her school uniform. She put on a black tshirt and some jeans. It wasn't an awesome outfit, but it wasn't like she was actually going to do anything today. She looked over at the desk beside her bed and gave a little smile. She actually liked doing homework, she just wasn't really a morning person so it seemed horrible at the time. She sat down at her desk and cracked open her History of Magic book. That was her least favorite subject. She did her homework in a certain order, from her least favorite to her favorite. She always liked to end with something that made her really happy.
It didn't take her more than a couple hours to do all the homework she had. She happily closed her Potions book and set all of them aside in the order she would have classes the next day. Deciding to not sit around all day, she decided to wander around the school for once. Maybe there were some muggleborns out there she could prank. She headed out of the common room and into the halls.
Addison hated muggleborns, and barely tolerate halfbloods. There were a disgrace to the wizarding name. She mostly tried to associate with Slytherins, because a lot of them shared her views. She used to wonder why she was in Ravenclaw, but always remembered it was because of her studies. She was a bookworm, but that was basically the only thing that separated her from the snakes. Even then she still liked to pick on them. Just the other day she threw an apple at Draco Malfoy. She wasn't picky, she generally didn't like people.
She walked past a classroom and heard laughing. That was strange. She slowly went to the door and lightly pushed it open, only to find Hermione Granger. Well, there went Addison's day. Scoffing, she pushed the door open all the way. She then noticed the girl was doing wordless magic and gave her a tiny bit of admiration. Not Hermione herself, but her talent. Addison was also working on not speaking spells, but had only managed to create sparks. It was great progress for a third year, so she didn't mind. "Maybe you should use some of those bubbles to bathe Granger. Then again, I highly doubt you'll get rid of the scum." She crossed her arms and gave her a smirk.

Wands are only as powerful as the witch or wizard wielding them.
Hermione was incredibly content with herself, but she felt a bit of push from the back of her brain. It was always doing that whenever she felt good about herself, whenever she was satisfied with whatever project she happened to be working on. She was always pushing herself to be better, to work harder, be more successful. People already considered her the brightest witch of her age, one of the brighter students overall in the school. Hermione knew that she was intelligent, but her smarts were carefully cultivated. She worked incredibly hard to be the best at everything that she set her mind to and was incredibly careful to continue that illusion.
Truthfully, the girl wasn't overly confident in herself. She was slowly coming into her own skin, growing and changing, but there was always a constant, nagging feeling of self-doubt lingering in the back of her mind. It was a weight, a shadow over her shoulder, looming over her like a terrifying apparition. Hermione knew that it was silly, that she should have been secure in who she was as a person, but that was difficult when she had little self-confidence. Harry and Ron helped with it all, but that only went so far. She wasn't the prettiest, she was only known for her smarts, and that was beginning not to cut it for the Gryffindor.
Of course, her sudden interest in what she looked like had to do with her finally looking around and noticing boys. Her best friends were slowly becoming handsome, something to look at. Hermione often caught herself watching Ron and Harry with the same girly fascination and awe that the older girls did. It was strange, and she attempted to push it from her mind whenever she caught herself doing it. They were her friends, and fawning over them was silly. Of course, they both had characteristics the young witch wished she had. Hermione desperately wanted Ron's humor and wit, and she would have killed for Harry's charm and athleticism. They seemed very confident in who they were, and Hermione admired them for that.
The door behind Hermione banged open and she jumped slightly. She didn't turn, merely looked over her shoulder. There stood Addison Harris, a girl who put the Ravenclaw name to shame. The younger blonde stood in the doorway, arms crossed over her chest, face split into a sneer that would have caused Malfoy to cower in his boots. The bubbles around Hermione popped with her lack of concentration and the brunette frowned, turning to face the girl.
"Maybe you should use some of those bubbles to bathe, Granger. Then again, I highly doubt you'll get rid of the scum."
Hermione straightened up, crossing her arms over her chest in a mirror of Addison's stance. "Hello, Addison. It's a pleasure, really," Hermione replied. Ever since she had socked Draco Malfoy in the face in her third year, the girl had grown a bit of a backbone. She'd learned from Harry. Still, she knew that Addison was one of the few who had no problem calling Hermione a "Mudblood," and that was enough to knock the Gryffindor down a few pegs. "Maybe I could teach you how to conjure them. It seems like your mouth could use some washing out," Hermione countered back, lifting her nose to the air in a sense of prissy attitude.
Addison had always been pretty smart person, but that was because she pushed herself to be. She wanted to be successful and you didn't get there by just sitting around. Spending numorous hours a day spilled over books would be worth it when she was making more money than her classmates, and probably being their boss as well. She would definitely enjoy that, and that was why she worked as hard as she did. She knew a lot more than her classmates, but it did come with a price. They were all out having fun and she stayed inside. It was okay by her though, she hated people anyways.
Maybe she was like that because she studied so much. Her habits had forced the personality into her and now she was a hateful bitch. Still, she really didn't mind being that. She would much rather be hated for who she was than loved for who she wasn't. Plus, the way she was would lead her into a great career. She really wanted to work for the Ministry, and that required training, so her studying would not end after school got out. A good job took years of practice, and some even years of skill.
She came back to reality as Granger spoke. "It should be a pleasure that someone of higher status is even speaking to you." She gave a half smile and cocked an eyebrow. Growing up the way she did made her quite sassy. Her parents were also blood purist, so they raised her to believe the same, and she did just that. Why would muggle anything be a part of the Wizarding community? The two should be split apart, and stay that way.
The Gryffindor spat back with an attitude and Addison had to chuckle. "You're so cute thinking your words mean anything." The blonde knew she was playing with fire snapping at someone older than her, but the other girl was only one year older, so it wasn't much of a difference. Besides, Addison had an attitude with teachers, so age really didn't matter to her. "As much as I detest saying this, you are a very smart person for learning to do that. I'm trying at it myself, but it's gonna take some time." She had to force the words out, but she knew how to be mature as well. Sometimes.
